THIS gogo now has a smile on her face after residents stepped in to help clear the rubbish next to her yard.
Gloria Khoza (65) from Mamelodi in Tshwane told Daily Sun she lived with the terrible smell of rotting rubbish next to her house for 10 years.
Khoza Car Wash now stands where there used to be a heap of rubbish. A happy Gloria said the smell chased away her visitors and brought rats and snakes into her house. “When it was hot, I had thousands of flies.”
Eddie Shiburi (44) told the People’s Paper the hard work of fellow residents made the gogo happy.
“It took us two weeks to clear the area.
“We could not believe how Gloria coped all these years under such conditions.”
Eddie said after they finished cleaning, they laid a cement floor for the car wash and planted grass to turn the area into a park and waiting area.
They named it the Khoza Car Wash to honour the gogo.
Community leader Lucas Mabunda said they wanted to keep all places in Mamelodi clean and prevent illegal dumping.
He said there were job opportunities in neglected areas and people could take advantage of the land to plant vegetables and create small local businesses.
The car wash will open this month and sponsors are asked to help with shelter, carwashing materials, boots and overalls.
