THE building manager accused of assaulting a man with barbed wire and a hammer will appear in court today.

A 27-year-old man was allegedly found stealing aluminium from the Aegis Building in Loveday Street, Joburg on Wednesday morning.

The SunTeam found the manager lying on the pavement after he had been handcuffed by cops.

Spokesman Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said the manager is accused of taking the law into his own hands.

“He was charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,” said Mbele.

“The man allegedly broke a lock. The manager chased him to the corner of Rissik and Commissioner streets. The suspect was brought back to the building and a group of people assaulted him.

“Even if someone has done something wrong, it doesn’t give anyone the right to assault him. The police must be called.”

The barbed wire was loaded into a police van with the building manager.

The bleeding alleged thief was taken to hospital for treatment.
