HER love for him went cold and then she dumped him, but the jealous fire in his heart consumed him.

And now he is behind bars, waiting for his trial to begin, after his former lover’s shack was torched. It is alleged he did it because he hoped to kill her and her new boyfriend inside!

Luckily the woman and man survived. She sustained burn injuries to her arms and face.

Her new partner suffered burn injuries over his entire body. Both will carry the scars for the rest of their lives.

Kagiso police spokesman Captain Solomon Sibiya said the incident happened in the middle of Saturday night in Rietvallei, near Mogale City.

Sibiya said the woman told police that she and her new boyfriend were asleep when she smelled petrol inside her shack.

In a flash the shack was engulfed in huge flames.

“The complainant jumped out of the bed and rushed towards the window to call for help.

“When she opened the window, she allegedly spotted the suspect she identified as her ex-boyfriend fleeing the scene on foot.”

Neighbours came with buckets of water to put out the fire and managed to save the couple. They were rushed to hospital.

A complaint of arson was registered at the Kagiso cop shop and police launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Sibiya said the 28-year-old suspect was bust on Sunday.

He is being detained at Kagiso Police Station, where case dockets of arson and attempted murder have been opened.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates Court soon.
