BOY KILLS MONKEY!

accreditation

TEN-year-old Thobelani Mkhize got up early on Wednesday morning to guard his uncle’s garden.

His uncle plants vegetables in the Ridgeview transit camps of Durban, KZN, but a monkey had been feasting on his ripe pumpkins.

Thobelani managed to strike the monkey on its head with a single stone, killing it on the spot.

His uncle, Sandile Zulu (36) told Daily Sun he was happy that Thobelani had saved him from the troublesome creature.

“I tried to chase it away.

“I fenced my garden and put up scarecrows, but still it continued to steal my crops.

“I am a small-scale farmer and my crops are my only source of income. I plant vegetables such as pumpkins, butternuts, spinach and cabbages.

“There are many monkeys here, but I identified this one by the big black patch on its back.”

SPCA spokesman Bongani Mthembu warned residents not to be cruel to animals and to respect their rights.

“Cruelty to animals is condemned,” he said. “Like other animals, monkeys are also protected by the law.”
