He fell through the ceiling in the hall of a Cape Town school.
The 12-year-old boy Kyle Grace, a Grade 6 pupil at Edgemead Primary, was declared dead when paramedics arrived at the school yesterday afternoon.
He accessed the stairs behind the stage and climbed into the ceiling, education MEC Debbie Schafer’s spokesperson Jessica Shelver said.
He fell about eight metres to his death."A full team from our district office left for the school immediately, including counsellors and psychologists. The incident has traumatised all concerned," Shelver said on today.Four school counsellors from a neighbouring school joined two district psychologists to provide counselling. More help would be provided as needed."This is an unspeakably tragic loss of such a young life. Our heartfelt condolences are with Kyle’s family at this very difficult time."
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said an inquest docket was opened.
