GOGO Cynthia’s eight-year-old grandson Thabiso Mkhwanazi had gone outside to play with his friends, when she heard him screaming in pain.
Gogo rushed to the door to find little Thabiso suffering from burn wounds all over his body, with skin peeling off in places.
But her horror turned to anger when she found out that Thabiso was burned with boiling water for stealing a few peaches!
“He was burnt all over his body,” she said. “His skin was peeling and he was crying like he was dying,” said gogo Cynthia Dlamini of Orange Farm.
She said when she asked his friends what had happened, they told her the neighbour had poured boiling water over Thabiso.
“I went to ask her what my grandson had done to deserve being cooked like that, and she told me he was stealing peaches from her tree.”
Gogo Cynthia said if her neighbour had simply come to her to report her grandson when she saw him stealing she would have punished him.
“I would even have paid her for the peaches he stole.
“Burning him like this is not right at all,” she said.
Cynthia said her grandson would never be the same again.
“He will have these burn marks for the rest of his life!”
Orange Farm police spokesman Captain Johannes Motsiri said a case of assault had been opened.
