ON FRIDAY, a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed, allegedly by his stepfather.
According to neighbours, his fault was that he refused to be sent to the shops by the stepdad.
Muziwenkosi Xaba (38), the boy’s neighbour in Doornkop’s block 10 in Snake Park, Soweto said what happened had left the residents shocked.
“We heard that the stepdad wanted to send the boy to the shop, but he refused.
“The man then hit the boy and he retaliated.
“That’s when the stepfather took out a gun and shot him,” he said.
Muziwenkosi said at the time of the incident the mother was not around.
“After the incident the stepfather disappeared.”
When the residents heard the news, they allegedly blamed the mum for failing to protect her son. They went to the house to confront her.
The mum allegedly fled the area as she feared for her life.
Another neighbour said people were not happy with what had happened.
“We just saw a truck coming and loading the furniture and from then, no one has been seen in that house. We think the mother left because she feared for her life.”
None of the residents know whether the mother followed her lover.
Dobsonville police spokesman Constable Mzwakhe Xazi confirmed the incident.
“Police are looking for the man to assist them in solving a murder case,” Xazi told Daily Sun.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect might be the boy’s stepfather.”
He said the suspect is armed and on the run.
“We’d like to warn the residents not to approach him.
“They should rather contact the police on 08600 10111 or SMS information to 3221.
“They can also call investigating officer, Detective-Constable Siphesihle Motha, on 011 983 1506, or the Dobsonville client service centre on 011 983 1500/06.
