A 1-MONTH-old baby was abducted in the middle of the night on Wednesday while sleeping with his mother in their Mandela Village home in Hammanskraal.

The 20-year-old mother only realised that the child was gone when the grandmother went into the room to enquire about him.

According to a source that is close to the case, the 74-year-old grandmother woke up in the early hours of Thursday morning to go to the bathroom. It was then that she saw the baby’s blanket on the floor. "She picked up the blanket and went to ask the mother why it was outside. The shocked mother then looked [at] her bed and realised the baby was not there. Upon waking up, they saw that the window was open," said the source.

The source added the that mother suspected the child’s father of being involved.

Police spokesperson Constable Herman Moremi said, based on the mother's suspicion that the child's father might be involved, they had visited his home.

"Police went to his home and questioned him, but he said he did not know anything about the incident. At this stage we don't have have any suspects," he said.

A case of abduction was being investigated by Temba police.
