STRAND residents are asking who could do such a cruel thing . . .

A frozen baby was found inside a dustbin in Vulindlela Road in Lwandle on Tuesday!

Police said the baby was about three months old.

A 29-year-old homeless man who was searching the dustbins found the infant in a black plastic bag.

It appeared as if the baby had been in a freezer for some time before it was later placed in the dustbin.

“People take their dustbins out on Tuesdays and I always come and search for stuff to sell,” the homeless man told Daily Sun.

“I was shocked today to find a baby inside.”

When he screamed from fright, people thought he was going mad.

“I called them to come and see for themselves,” he said.

“I have never seen anything like this before.

“I even stopped searching dustbins for the day.”

Siphosethu Ngqola (21), who lives close by, was shocked that someone could do something so cruel.

“Who has the nerve to put a baby in a freezer for days and then throw the child out in the dustbin?” said Siphosethu

“This person is clearly heartless. The person must be found. People must talk.

“They know who was pregnant, and if that person cannot answer as to where their child is, then they must be suspects.”

Local councillor Jongidumo Maxheke condemned the act.

“I am shocked by what happened,” he said.

“We have local clinics where a person can drop a child off and leave if they no longer want it anymore.

“They can just leave the child at someone’s doorstep, rather than killing it.

“This is shocking. I can’t express how I really feel.”

Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said: “Lwandle police are investigating a death after the body of an infant was found in Vulindlela Road in Lwandle.”

Anyone with more information that can assist with the investigation is asked to contact Lwandle police on 021 845 2060 or 082 522 1208.
