FIKILE Mbalula said the ANC will never allow racists to thrive in South Africa.
“The judge took a decision to the total disregard of justice,” said Mbalula, speaking to about 100 ANC Ekurhuleni region members who marched to the Constitutional Court yesterday.
They were there to voice their displeasure at the imminent release of Janusz Walus, the man who murdered Chris Hani in 1993.
They were led by Minister of Sports Fikile Mbalula, Hani’s wife Limpho, Ekurhuleni regional chairman and deputy minister Mzwandile Masina, as well as a few traditional leaders.
“Walus killed Hani to undermine the democratic dispensation in South Africa,” said Mbalula.
“He did not show remorse. He deserves to rot in jail. Today Limpho is a widow and Chris Hani’s children have no father.”
Mbalula said they also demand the release of all political prisoners, regardless of their political affiliation.
The judge ordered on Thursday that Walus be released on parole in two weeks time.
Angry Limpho, who has called the judge a racist woman, said she took her husband’s death like the holocaust.
Handing over the memorandum to the ConCourt manager Hlengani Rikhotso, deputy minister Masina said he hoped it would reach the Chief Justice and that the court would act urgently.
Some of the placards held by the marchers read: Janusz Walus lived to see this day ... Chris Hani didn’t. Janusz Walus has no conscience but has parole. The release of Walus is a slap in the face of democracy.
