THE ANC has cautioned the SABC board against reappointing former chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng in an acting capacity.
This comes after newspapers reported the public broadcaster was planning on placing Motsoeneng in a senior position.
City Press on Sunday reported that Motsoeneng would be appointed group executive.
The Supreme Court of Appeal last week upheld a judgment by the Western Cape High Court that Motsoeneng’s appointment was irregular.
SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago did not want to comment on the reports, saying the board still had to discuss the matter with lawyers. He said he didn’t know when this meeting would take place.
The ANC released a statement that stopped short of telling the public broadcaster to get rid of Motsoeneng.
“The ANC believes there is an undeniable link between good governance and compliance with the law, and we accordingly urge the SABC to ensure it upholds the ruling of the Western Cape High Court,” read the statement.
ANC spokesman Zizi Kodwa said the party stood behind President Jacob Zuma’s comments that the government remained committed to respecting court rulings.
