A MONTH after the elections, opposition parties are still asking questions about some of the ward results.
ANC members from the Abaqulusi region in northern KZN said they found it hard to accept the defeat by the IFP in Ward 4 and 13.
ANC regional secretary Vincent Dlamini said they were in the process of collecting evidence to back up the two election fraud charges opened at the Vryheid and Gluckstadt police stations last month.
ANC branch leader in Ward 4, Mkhanyiseli Mhlongo, said they have already obtained evidence from over 100 outsiders who confessed they were paid to vote in these wards. IFP national chairman, Blessed Gwala said his party was not
upset by the investigation in progress.
“If the ANC feels there were irregularities, let’s allow the law to take its course then we’ll take it from there,” he said.
IEC provincial spokesman Mawethu Mosery confirmed a criminal case was opened.
“We must wait for the decision of the courts,” he said.
KZN police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane confirmed that two cases of election fraud were being investigated.
