Banks tweet drama!

accreditation
The tweet that caused a stir among many viewers.

IT WAS meant to be a joke, but it’s turned into a nightmare for banking corporation Absa.

The company’s Twitter account tweeted that the groom who was featured on Mzansi Magic’s Our Perfect Wedding was a hooligan.

This was after it was said on the show that Balekane Mahuma was a serial gambler who enjoyed playing the dice.

The tweet was quickly deleted but it had already done a lot of damage as many people were angered by it and demanded that the bank apologise to the groom.

The couple, Balekani and Mariam Mahuma, are from Brits in North West.

They received R10 000 from the bank after the show.

People said that giving them money did not give Absa the right to insult them.

) Tiisetso Dithipe said on Twitter: “Every organised group in South Africa makes money from black people.

“This is proof of that and a spit in our face.”

) Commissar McCoy said: “Never been humiliated by anyone like this before. Let the hand that typed the tweet be fired.”

) Noluvuyo Mpekelana said: “So we sponsor couples and call them hooligans?

“I don’t want to pull the race card but that is disrespectful in so many ways.”

A spokesman from Absa said they would like to apologise for the tweet.

“Through our association with the programme we engage with our customers to understand their financial needs better.

“We look forward to being part of more exciting new couple’s journeys on Our Perfect Wedding.”

Mzansi Magic was not available for comment at the time of going to print.
