87 MINERS TRAPPED – AMCU!

accreditation

At least 87 mine workers are unaccounted for after the earth under the Makonjwaan Gold Mine’s office buildings suddenly collapsed this morning.

The buildings and the 52 people inside were swallowed by the earth.

An additional 115 miners were working underground at the time. Eighty of them are safely back on the surface, but a further 35 are still missing.

The cause of the collapse at the mine in Barberton, Mpumalanga, is not yet known.

Amcu’s Manzini Zungu said no deaths or injuries have yet be confirmed.

“This is the second horrific incident within the past two weeks, which is incomprehensible. We are very saddened and disturbed to hear of such an horrendous incident,” he said.
