A man who killed his wife and son and tried to kill his two other kids was slapped with a 65-year jail sentence.
Alfred Setlae (37) from Putfontein, Ekurhuleni was sentenced to 65 years imprisonment on Monday at the Pretoria High Court for the murders of his wife, Delane Ntimane and their seven year-old son, Tshepo.
Setlae also bashed his daughter against the wall and tried to shoot his other son.
He will serve 30 years of his 65-year sentence.
Setlae admitted to shooting his wife in the face and chest while they were arguing, after which he shot his son in the chest and head while he was sleeping.
When the eldest son tried to escape, Setlae called him and shot at him, but missed.
He also admitted to throwing his baby daughter against a wall.
She sustained a severe injury and had to be hospitalised for three weeks.
In a statement, Setlae said he was remorseful for what he did, and claimed to have a very vague memory of the horrific incidents.
Setlae tried to commit suicide after the incident, but the gun did not go off.
He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and was said to have beeen provoked.
He said that the experience was very traumatic for him when he realised the consequences of what he had done.
