Alfred Setlae (37) from Putfontein, Ekurhuleni was sentenced to 65 years imprisonment on Monday at the Pretoria High Court for the murders of his wife, Delane Ntimane and their seven year-old son, Tshepo.

Setlae also bashed his daughter against the wall and tried to shoot his other son.

He will serve 30 years of his 65-year sentence.

When the eldest son tried to escape, Setlae called him and shot at him, but missed.

She sustained a severe injury and had to be hospitalised for three weeks.

In a statement, Setlae said he was remorseful for what he did, and claimed to have a very vague memory of the horrific incidents.

He said that the experience was very traumatic for him when he realised the consequences of what he had done.
