BEAUTIFUL actress Zola Nombona (24) has started off the year in a
big way on Mzansi TV screens!
She plays Monde In Mzansi Magic’s new prison series, Lockdown.
The drama follows the fascinating back stories of how the women
ended up in prison and how they survive being locked up behind bars.
Speaking to SunBuzz, Zola said her new role was not an easy
journey.
“Playing Monde taught me that nothing is impossible. It transformed
me as a person and working on the series has been amazing.”
Her character is a wannabe superstar singer who gets arrested for
being in possession of drugs.
Her music producer boyfriend Zakes, played by Luxolo Ndabeni,
planted them in her handbag so she goes to prison to face the music.
“Monde is feisty, driven and yet naive. When she ends up behind
bars, her flexibility and adaptability shows in how she deals with her
situation,” said Zola, who was born in Matatiele, Eastern Cape.
She added that she admires Monde’s drive, will and bravery.
Contrary to what many may think, working with a cast of women was great for
Zola.
“They are an amazing group of people. We grew close, showed each
other support and prayed for each other.”
Zola, who also dabbles in music, says she loves storytelling.
“I love transforming into various characters. When I meet people,
they see different characters in me and I enjoy that.”
She has acted in various series and dramas such as Z’bondiwe, Intersexions and iThuba
Lokugcina.
