ZAZA Mokhethi (38) is over the moon with joy to finally see her dream come true.
Her musical journey has been a bumpy road but now the gospel singer has reached her goal.
Her live DVD, Blowing the Horn of Chronicles, was recorded at the Soweto Theatre in September.
Speaking to SunBuzz, Zaza said: “It’s so mind-blowing to see how everything has fallen into place, even though it took a long time. I’ve faced many challenges but being an independent artist with my own record label has set me free. I was able to do everything the way that I wanted to and I feel blessed.”
Born in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni, Zaza said initially she didn’t consider music as a career.
“I actually wanted to study biochemistry but I believe gospel music is my calling. When I minister in song, people give testimony and that is a gift.”
She added that Blowing the Horn of Chronicles is a musical gem for everyone. “My aim was to cater for everyone. I sing in various languages and gospel styles.”
Her career break came in 2006 when she sang backing vocals for gospel greats such as Rebecca Malope, Solly Mahlangu and Keke Phoofolo.
She then joined a musical theatre group called African Mama and was soon visiting international stages in the Netherlands, France and the UK.
When she returned to Mzansi in 2007, she joined gospel choir, Joyous Celebration and has won gospel lovers’ hearts ever since. She took the plunge and went solo with the release of her debut album, Umoya Oyingcwele in 2010 followed by Thank You in 2012 and a third album, Imvuselelo, two years later.
She added that she’s passionate about mentoring young women who want to make their careers in the music industry.
