UKHOZI FM’s programme manager, Zandile Tembe, shocked listeners when she spoke about the challenges she faced as a boss.
An emotional Zandile was one of the speakers at the Royal Ladies Breakfast event held at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Umhlanga, outside Durban on Saturday.
She said sometimes she had to deal with insults, but the most challenging decision she ever took was to fire her best friend and colleague, Linda Sbiya.
She told the attendees that axing Linda – who now works for Vuma FM – was the biggest decision she ever made.
“We were not just colleagues, I knew him personally. I wouldn’t be a leader today if it was not for him, but I had to fire him and escort him out of the building.
“I had to make him understand that I was being professional, not personal,” she said.
Zandile added that she had to deal with insults after removing Khathide “Tshathugodo” Ngobe and Ngizwe Mchunu from the maskandi show called Sigiya Ngengoma.
This was after the ugly tension between the two presenters affected the show’s content.
“I was told that I would never make it as a programmes manager because I moved popular presenters. I had to deal with insults every day. But I understood it was because I was a leader,” said Zandile.
Women also shared their experiences of love, beauty and their careers.
