T he January blues are over and this weekend is your chance to usher in the new month in a big way!
The Tonght Party series will kick off on Saturday with Canadian-born South African soul singer Zaki Ibrahim.
She’ll headline the first of six Tonght parties for this year, alongside DJs Kenzhero and Kid Fonque. The party will take place at And Club in Newtown, Joburg.
Speaking to SunBuzz, Zaki said she was excited to perform in Joburg after three years.
“The Joburg crowd always shows me so much support. I’ve just realised how fast three years can go by!”
For the past 10 years, Zaki has sung on several South African deep house anthems. She describes herself as an expressive Pan African artist.
“Creating visuals, movements and costumes have always excited me. I’m led by music which I enjoy the most.”
The mother of a two-year-old boy added that most people don’t know that she styles hair for fun. “It’s another expressive form of art. I do it as a hobby. I even have hair workshops and parties.”
Zaki’s second album is set for global release next month, with music and visuals that combine various artistic influences.
