FIRE damaged the home and destroyed a luxury R1,5 million Porsche Cayenne SUV belonging to businessman Wonga Malusi, last week.
According to the Daily Dispatch Wonga was lucky his R5 million mansion in the Nahoon Rivermead Estates suburb at Beacon Bay didn’t burn down.
“The owner was lucky we got there on time, otherwise the house would have burnt down too,” a firefighter said.
He said: “There was so much damage done to the car and the house.
“The damage was so extreme we couldn’t speculate what caused it. There was no sign of any suspicious object,” he said. No one was home at the time.
East London police spokesman, Lt-Col Tana, said when police officers from the Beacon Bay police station got to the scene, the house was empty.
They later learnt Malusi was in Morgan Bay.
He said the fire caused an estimated R2 million in damage.
“It’s unclear how the fire started, but further investigations have led to the opening of a case of arson,” Lt-Col Tana said.
According to reports, Malusi declined to speak about the incident saying in doing so it “could jeopardise the police investigation”.
Last week, Sunday Sun reported there seemed to be trouble in paradise for Uyanda and Wonga.
