IF you’re looking for something to shake the slumber from your shoulders, look no further than the theatre production, Hani, The Legacy.
WATCH BELOW a snippet from the show performed on the streets of Joburg
This riveting, high-energy performance by a cast of 15 Market Theatre Laboratory students presents a history of Chris Hani’s life. It dramatises Hani’s inspiring and tragic tale through a breathtaking combination of hip hop, rap and ballads. The dance moves are both athletic and precise – with the production clearly polished by its recent run at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
Expect to be lured into the play with wonderful performances by all of the actors, each of whom have fine-tuned their characters. The play, which was workshopped by the cast under the guidance of director Leila Henriques and assistant director Linda Tshabalala, is a thrilling spectacle even as it reminds you of the shocking hole the murder of Hani left in our society – and the importance of looking again at his legacy and how we can use it to change for the better.
