Durban rapper Mhlonishwa has big dreams and believes he has what it takes to shine in the cut-throat music industry.

Mhlonishwa, also known as Tong Poh, was introduced to music fans in December at the Bring Summer Back Fresh Ink party in Durban.

“I was one of the up-and-coming artists that performed at the event. I didn’t know I was going to be seen by the right people.

“I was performing for the first time and got to share the stage with Distruction Boyz and DJs Cndo and Happy Gal.

“I was lucky enough to be approached by EMZA Entertainment, a record label based in Joburg,” said Mhlonishwa.

The talented young rapper released his debut single, Ambition, last month and said the song is a description of the type of person he is.

“I do everything with passion,” he said.

“I am an ambitious artist who is always keen to learn more as I believe knowledge is power.

“I want to work with experienced artists so I can learn from their challenges and achievements. That will help me grow.”

He said he understands how hard it is for aspiring musicians to attain mainstream success.

“Some artists have been trying for a long time,” he said.

“Most of them are not well known, even though they have been in the industry for more than 10 years.

“This proves that music is a dog-eat- dog industry.

“But I believe being unique is powerful.”

He told SunBuzz the first artist he will work with is rapper Zakwe.

He said Zakwe understands his music and that he is humble and approachable.
