TOL A$$ Mo has no problem making fun of himself.
The comedian, musician and presenter – whose real name is Mongezi Ngcobondwane – is from Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.
He told Daily Sun he was still in primary school when he developed an interest in comedy.
“I remember watching Kings of Comedy with Richard Pryor and thinking I’d also like to get into comedy,” said Mongezi.
When his friend, Stanley Pakiso, had a problem with his voice, Tol A$$ Mo took over as MC at a show.
“I remember being very nervous but I did what I did best. I started making fun of myself and it was laughter at its best.”
He added that he was named Tol A$$ Mo by Stanley.
The letters stand for T- totally,
O- outrageous, L- laughter, A- about God, S- street, S- style, ending in Mo for Mongezi.
Tol A$$ Mo said he attended the Premier Comedy Monday at the Blues Room and Trevor Noah picked him out from the audience.
“I had less than five minutes but I made fun of my name and the audience laughed.”
Tol A$$ Mo has done many stand-up comedy shows and has also presented some talk shows. He is currently an ambassador for Lunch Bar which has shot his latest video single, titled Shugadi Bang.
“I really love comedy, but I also appreciate music. I’m trying to ease my way into the music industry,” he said.
Tol A$$ Mo is married to Mome Nale of Cream Cartel fame.
“I’m fortunate to have a woman who understands me and hustles as much as I do. She keeps me going.”
But he also has a serious side.
“I have a son who looks up to me. I didn’t have a father figure to look up to but I picked up good qualities from real men in my kasi. Dads shouldn’t be commanders but teachers to children. Then we will raise valuable men and women in our society,” he said.
Tol A$$ Mo was featured on The Homecoming Comedy Tour, the Aromat Comedy Tour, the Just Because Comedy Festival and the Tshwane Comedy festivals and is known for his reality TV show, Mo Love on Vuzu channel. He currently has a prank show called You Got Got which targets unsuspecting people on Mzansi streets.
He is proud of Mzansi comedy and believes it is of international standard.
