MASKANDI singer Mroza “Abnormal” Fakude has lashed DJ Tira and Sox.
In his latest song, Kopholela Ethunjini, the Sobulala uVan Damme hitmaker accuses the two of undermining maskandi artists and their music.
He claims the two had a problem when the Sobulala uVan Damme (We are going to kill Van Damme) song was nominated and voted the most popular in Mzansi for last year on Ukhozi FM.
DJ Tira and Sox’s Umsindo song came second.
The song lyrics say: “We Tira nino Sox ninomsindo. Kudela owazi obaba benu. Kudela owazi omama benu. Kwakunani uma umaskandi ehlukanisa unyaka? Singabendlu emnyama sonke kodwa nisibukela phansi. Siyacula nathi. Nisibukela phansi. Singabantu nathi.”
Mroza song’s lyrics, loosely translated from Zulu: “DJ Tira and Sox, you are angry. Lucky are those who know their fathers and mothers.
“What’s so wrong when a maskandi song takes the Song of the Year title? We are all black but you look down on us. We can also sing. You undermine us. We are people too.”
When contacted, Mroza declined to comment but to say the song was self-explanatory.
DJ Sox said: “I personally love maskandi music and we have a healthy competition with Mroza, and last year he won. We even congratulated him when he took the title.”
Tira also poured cold water on the claims, saying: “I don’t have a problem with him and maskandi music. In fact I love Mroza because he is my home boy from the rural neighbouring village of KwaHlabisa.
“If all goes well, I am willing to book him for the Fact Durban Rocks gig and pay him whatever amount he wants. We wish him all success in his future endeavours.”
