IZINJA zivukile . . .
This is the best way to summarise the return of Kenny Kunene and his partner, Gayton McKenzie.
Today Sunday Sun can reveal the two “partners in crime”, who were once behind bars and went on to open one of Mzansi’s most expensive night clubs, ZAR Lounge, are back in the entertainment game.
They opened a classy centre in Sandton, Joburg.
The two ex-cons officially opened their new chill-out spot called Rivonia On Deck on Wednesday night.
The invite read in part “the opening of Jozi’s premier business and lifestyle centre”. Their offices are also located on the premises.
The opening of Rivonia on Deck attracted thousands of Jozi’s A-list celebs who sipped expensive champagne and smoked cigars while enjoying juicy steaks and good music.
The venue provides a spectacular view of Joburg from the deck.
Sunday Sun spoke to some of the patrons at the lavish shisa nyama.
One patron said: “Kenny and Gayton are back with a bang. I fear this place is going to be the death of other businesses here in Joburg. The ambiance is so refreshing. The place is just out of this world.”
Another patron said: “These two are izinja ze game for real. They’re proof that you can’t keep a good man down.”
An elated Kenny said:“It’s a place for everyone. Prices are reasonable. We realised there’s a gap for an original shiya nyama with a spa and hair salon that’s outdoors in Sandton. Our place is a lifestyle venue that offers what you need for an outing. We’re not in competition with anyone.”
The pair owned the upmarket nightclub, ZAR Lounge, in Cape Town, Kimberley and Sandton, which all closed down in 2012.
When the ZAR empire collapsed, many thought the guys would never be able to make a comeback.
At the time, ZAR attracted some world football icons like Luis Figo, Patrick Vieira, Christian Karembeu, John Barnes, Edgar Davids, and Arsene Wenger.
