Rebecca Malope is being honoured at the Mpumalanga Gospel Music Awards on Sunday.
The awards – to be held at the ASG Communion City Changers Hall near the Ilanga Mall in Mbombela, Mpumalanga – will pay tribute to her for her tireless contribution to gospel music.
Born and bred in Mpumalanga, the gospel sensation has represented her province well and will be honoured with a Lifetime Achiever Award.
Rebecca said: “It feels great being part of the awards this time around.
“To be honoured at home, as well as performing there, really is a blessing.
“I have had a long journey in the industry and feel very humbled.”
Awards CEO and founder Sandile Ngobe said the standards are being raised at this year’s awards.
“We’re expecting a bigger crowd and the categories are exciting.
“It’s going to be one of the biggest events ever.
“It will be a pleasure for us to honour Mama Rebecca for all she has done for the gospel industry.
“I think she deserves everything good that comes to her as she has contributed so much to the genre.”
There will be performances by Rebecca, Sipho Makhabane, Thina Zungu, Pretty Mhlongo, Tshepo Price and many others.
Awards will be made in the voters’ choice and national categories.
The national category includes:
Best Male Artist
Best Female Artist
Best A Capella
Another popular category is the Best Gospel Song of the Year.
Nominees in this category include: Pretty Mhlongo, Papa Ndu, Mpumalanga Praise, Ernest Nkabinde, God’s Messengers, Mphotholozi, Phindile Mashaba, Bathabile, Sidwell Mathebula, Tshepo Prince.
