OP PANTHER wants to see Limpopo hip hop being played internationally.
The up-and-coming rapper from Mokopane is often described as soulful.
The 33-year-old, whose real name is Morapedi Matlhaba, developed a love for music as a teenager and, after starting to rap, was exposed to the world of hip hop.
He learnt to create a special sound and use words for effect and rhythm.
His work was recorded in 2010 and last year.
In December, his dream came true with the release of The Signature Mixtape Volume 1.
The title refers to his special rhyming style, and the mixtape produced by DJ Nteeze from house duo Nteeze and Andy has 12 tracks.
Although OP Panther performs regularly, he feels due to a lack of focus on Limpopo hip hop, artists there don’t have a platform.
“I want to see it going international. Radio stations must support local music.
“I really love writing and playing around with words.
“It is where I can share my view of the world,” he said.
One of his songs is called Gift, where he stutters.
“I stutter because wherever you find stuttering, God is always there,” said the rapper.
