Phumla Nkomo has had her fair share of time out of the spotlight.
A former member of music group The Voice, the 26-year-old Afropop singer from Barberton in Mpumalanga is now carving her own path.
Phumla, who used to be a backing vocalist for gospel musician Sechaba, recently released a single titled Lengoma.
She plans to shoot a music video for the song soon.
She told SunBuzz the song is dedicated to all the women who work hard to give their children good lives.
Phumla has shared the stage with the likes of rapper Riky Rick, singer NaakMusiq and Producer and Musician Robbie Malinga.
“Meeting Robbie Malinga was a dream come true.
“I still remember how he shared so much of his time with me at an event in Polokwane.
“He told me my talent would take me far but warned me to remain humble,” she said.
She said she draws inspiration from the likes of legendary jazz musician Don Laka.
Phumla said she is inspired by the way Don Laka used his talent to change lives and inspire young people.
“I want to become a better singing and master my craft.”
Phumla is not just a talented musician.
She also holds a bachelor of arts degree in media studies from the University of Limpopo.
Before she became a professional musician, she used to entertain crowds at events such as the Miss Thick Madame beauty pageant.
She has also won an award at the Limpopo Talent Factor singing competition.
