PRAYERS are pouring in for music legend Ray Phiri, who has been admitted to a Nelspruit hospital in Mpumalanga.

Phiri is under the care of oncologists, and his family asked for privacy, saying his health was under control.

An oncologist diagnoses and treats tumours.

His daughter Thuli said her father was admitted to hospital, but asked people to stop spreading rumours. This was after people claimed Ray was suffering from lung cancer.

“People should stop diagnosing my father on social media and stop spreading
rumours that he has run out of hospital funds,” she said.

“We would like to be left in peace to deal with the matter in private.”

She said her dad was in good hands and the hospital was taking good care of him.

Phiri is part of the internationally acclaimed group Stimela, for which he is the lead vocalist and guitarist.

News of his health problems broke on Saturday when fellow band member Richard Mitchell posted on Facebook that Phiri had been admitted to hospital.

Mitchell wrote on Facebook that Phiri had exhausted his private funds and medical aid, and that he was in need of help.

He wrote: “Please help by donating funds as he has exhausted all his private funds.”
