FASHION DESIGNER and founder of Palse, Paledi Segapo has responded to accusations of design theft by David Tlale.

He also threatened legal action against him on Twitter.

In a statement released today, Paledi said "As a designer I pride myself in my work and my brand and as such would never do anything to put it in jeopardy. It is not only unethical but also disrespectful to pass off another creative’s work as that of your own".

This after the renowned designers had a spat on Instagram over Paledi’s ensemble at the Metro FM awards.

In a post that has now been deleted, David accuses Paledi of stealing his designs, his black lip idea and now designs from his interns.

According to David, the draped suit that Paledi wore to the awards was an idea that was stolen from Siphosihle Masango’s collection which was part of The Intern by David Tlale showcase at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg in 2016.

However, Paledi is not having it.

“Don’t start with me please @davidtlale that’s a look from @thandopiliso_ get your facts right nxa,” he responded to the post.

Paledi then went on to upload a picture of himself in the suit with the caption “@davidtlale its imperative to get facts right, we need to learn2apply a level of emotional intelligence & I'm sorry I didn't know uve invented goth lip. Thanx!”.

Paledi says he was simply supporting an up and coming designer.

"The fashion industry at large is a competitive one and can get very mean. It is up to us as individuals to rise above it and support each other where possible, hence my supporting emerging designers either through mentorship or providing them the needed exposure," he said.
