A-LIST beauty Bonang Matheba is on the losing side again.
“Queen B”, as the Metro FM presenter is popularly known, has lost her slot in Clash of the Choirs.
Sunday Sun has learnt Bonang has been replaced by Isibaya actor Lawrence Maleka, who plays Don in the soapie.
And the People’s Paper can confirm Queen B is currently not shooting the popular music show because she has too much on her plate
already.
Highly placed sources said the channel wanted to replace her with Dineo Ranaka. But that decision was later changed because they wanted someone who is not known for drama.
“They decided against her,” said one TV insider.
Another said the channel was getting tired of all Bonang’s personal dramas which broke out behind the scenes.
That source said Bonang has done a great job for the show since its inception – but the time had come to finally let her go.
“As much as Queen B did well on the small screen this year, her personal drama also made banner headlines.
“And the AKA love drama saga was also bad for her image,” the source said.
Bonang even won the Drama Queen of the Year award at the 2015 Chevrolet Feather Awards, held at Joburg City Hall two weeks back.
Our TV mole said: “Lawrence will bring a new element to the show. And so far he’s done a great job.”
The source said Bonang did not take kindly to the fact that she won’t be coming back for the next season of the show.
Our mole said: “Queen B liked being on Clash of the Choirs. And on top of that, it gave her a different following and a bigger audience.”
Bonang confirmed her departure and said: “I have been following Lawrence since day one. He is doing well. I am happy for him. Obviously I am disappointed that I’m not coming back.”
Publicist Ryna van Heerden did not confirm or deny anything:
“We are in the final stages of confirming the talent for the show. We will confirm the host mid-week.”
Lawrence was not available for comment.
