A TUG of war has erupted between a mother and her son!
Nozipho Xulu, wife of the late maskandi legend Mgqumeni, wants her son to leave music and concentrate on his studies.
This after 16-year-old Lusanda defied his mother’s wishes that he stay with his father’s maskandi group Osaziwayo.
However Lusanda, a grade 10 pupil, is adamant that his decision to leave Osaziwayo for AmaAK47 is final, as both groups were groomed by his father.
Speaking to Daily Sun, his concerned mum said Lusanda was too young to deal with the rivalry between the two groups.
“He needs to focus on his studies. The clashes between these two music groups could interfere with his studies. He can continue with music after matric.”
Nozipho said she does not like the fact that Lusanda has rejoined AmaAK47.
“He once joined the group and I managed to get him back to Osaziwayo,” she said.
However Lusanda said no one, not even his mother, can tell him to stop his music.
“I’m the only one who can make that decision because I’m old enough. I respect my mother but I’ll continue with AmaAK47.”
“I will remain a member of the group until I release my debut solo album Umfana WeBobhova in June.
“I’ll make time for music and my books.”
Osaziwayo leader Khangelani Mhlongo said Lusanda must follow his heart.
“We can’t stop him if he wants to leave.”
AmaAK47 leader Jaiva Khanyeza said Nozipho’s decision was unfair. “There is nothing wrong with Lusanda deciding to work with us. I will arrange a meeting to discuss the matter with her because I don’t want Lusanda to be seen as if he is disrespecting his mother.”
When asked about the meeting, Nozipho said she wants nothing to do with AmaAK47.
