Nomazwi Majola is a vibrant 23 year old from the Roodepoort. She is a Miss Earth 2016 semi-finalist. She entered the contest last year, but did not get far.

Nomazwi sees this as a blessing because this time around she feels more prepared and optimistic. She believes that it is not always a bad thing when a door closes for you "God is just saying not now or I have something better in mind."

Here are some of Nomzawi's answers to the Q & A session she had with the Sun Team:

Q. When did you start  modelling?:

A: I can say I started becoming interested in the modelling industry in 2013, I was about 20 years old at the time. However I do not consider myself as a model, I have modeled here and there just to help me with my confidence and my main goals for my life.

Q. Why did you you choose to be a pageant model?
A. I entered my first pageant when I was 17 years old - it was a High school pageant, I ended up really enjoying the process and won 2nd Princess. Doing my first Pageant gave me confidence, it empowered me and it gave me reassurance of who I am and what I want in this life. It was a very fun experience for me and I thought, "Hey, I could do this, I think I could really enjoy this and learn a lot from it".
Also many of my local role models are beauty queens and I think in some way following in their foot steps would some how lead me to where I would like to be one day.

Q. What do you besides modelling?
A: I currently am a Digital Content Producer for the Daily sun and Sunday sun at media 24. When I am not at work, I spend time with my family and close friends. I am also very involved at my church so most of my time I am involved with church activities.

Q. How did you feel when you were told that you are a Miss Earth South Africa Regional Semi-finalist?
A. I was very happy and excited for my new journey and I am just so eager to learn new things and become a better person.

Q. What does winning Miss Earth South Africa mean to you?
A. Being part of the Miss Earth South Africa Leadership programme I already feel like a winner, because already I have done so much to help my community and different people in it, which is why I entered MESA. MESA gives every girl an opportunity to go out and educate people about environmental issues, create awareness, solutions to the problems and we get to engage in community activations which is very empowering for an individual. Winning the Miss Earth South Africa title would make me extremely happy because I would be able to help communities and spread the Green Message on a national level, However even if I don't win, the experience I have received I know that I will always be a Miss Earth Ambassador and will continue to support the brand.

Q. How do you prepare for such a competition?

A. The beauty about MESA Leadership Programme and it's something that many people get wrong, MESA is not a pageant, it's a leadership programme, And just like any leadership workshop/programme the aim is to learn. I would say, prepare to have your life and heart changed. Changed about the earth, the people around us and yourself.

We wish you all the best Nomazwi!
