NICHOLAS NKUNA is worried about the rising divorce rate among young couples.
The actor, who is best known for his role as Sakhile on Skeem Saam, will stage a play about marriage and divorce.
The play, Talk To Me, will be staged at Joburg Theatre from today until next Tuesday.
Nicholas said: “I grew up around married people and always saw them in church.
“Marriage is a universal concept, but divorce rates among young people are going up.”
Nicholas said the play touches on topics such as marriage, love, secrecy and religion.
He stars in the play alongside Pulane Rampoana, who plays the role of his wife Lerato.
Nicholas and Lerato are young newlyweds who start experiencing problems after their honeymoon.
The two soon find that marriage is not what they expected it to be.
During the play, the audience learns Lerato married Nicholas because she wanted to please her parents, who are both pastors.
On the other hand, Nicholas feared he wouldn’t be a part of his child’s life if he did not marry Lerato.
Nick said he did a lot of research in preparation for the play, which is directed by Khutso Green.
“I had to interview three couples and my team also interviewed two other couples.”
Catch Talk To Me at Joburg Theatre from today until next Tuesday.
The play starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost R120 at www.joburgtheatre.com.
