MANDLA Ngcongwane, aka Mandla N, has stepped out of his comfort zone.
Well-known as a seasoned South African actor, musician, producer and entrepreneur, he’s now busy nurturing a new baby.
He is filming his new drama series – something which is completely new to him.
The drama, Lockdown, is about female prison life.
Mandla is best known for his role as Themba Khumalo in the SABC1 sitcom, City Ses’la and its spin off series, Ses’Top La.
He formed a production company which has made several series.
He told SunBuzz: “Our mission is to deliver cutting edge and relevant entertainment to the people of Africa and beyond.
“The drama is about a female prison. It demonstrates issues and challenges that women face in jail.”
He said the shooting is being done at the Constitution Hill precinct in Joburg.
“We chose the building because it was once a prison,” he said.
The drama will hit Mzansi screens in January.
He said unlike the sitcoms he did before, Lockdown has a lot of action.
“It’s something different and everyone will love it,”
His company has bagged a Rose D’or Certificate for second place in the TV comedy category and 22 South African Film and Television Awards golden horns.
One of the biggest things he produced this year was the popular Uzogcwala advert for Mzanzi Magic that kept everyone talking.
