FADED kwaito and house music producer Godfrey “Guffy” Pilane has allegedly turned his back on Malaika.

Sunday Sun sources claimed Guffy was offered a chance to produce Malaika’s last album – but he refused.

A source said group members, Tshedi Mholo and Bongani Nchang, split a few years ago to go solo, but forgot they owed Sony Music one album as per their contract.

The source said the group approached the faded music producer as they believed he would do a good job.

“Malaika wants to do a comeback album and only Guffy can do it. But Guffy turned them down. He’s relocated to North West to pursue other business ventures,” said the source.

Another source claimed Guffy was dishonest, as he’s in the studio working with a new band called Encore, working on an album to be released in July.

“He was supposed to do one track, but he loves their sound so much he’s producing a few tracks on their album. This means he’s snubbing Malaika,” the second source alleged.

Another source said the group shouldn’t make this about Guffy turning them down, and claimed it’s impossible for them as a group to reunite.

“At some point, we had to go perform in different areas. The situation was so bad that Tshedi would pitch and Bongani wouldn’t. This affected the rest of the band. It became clear the group was falling apart and collapsed in 2013.”

The source further claimed they had to move on as Bongani and Tshedi were fighting.

Tshedi said: “I’m not going to comment on the issue. Please, contact Sony.”

Guffy said: “I’ve no idea about this and other issues involving them. I’m totally in the dark. hope you go well with the story.

Marketing manager for Sound African Recordings at Sony Music Entertainment, Maria Hadjidimitriadis said:“I’ve had this conversation with your colleague. I forgot his name I told him then we don’t know anything. I’m unaware of what’s happening. If you want a comment, call the CEO. If we find anything, we’ll give you. But now I don’t know anything right now”.

Sean Watson, CEO of Sony, refused to comment and hung up the phone. Bongani was not available for comment.
