Sfiso Ncwane might be gone, but he is still loved by gospel fans.
The late star made it to the nomination list of this year’s Crown Gospel Music Awards.
He was nominated by fans in the categories Song of the Decade and Artist of the Decade.
This was revealed at a party held at the Durban Botanical Gardens on Friday, where the awards nominees were announced.
The two categories were added this year as the prestigious awards are celebrating 10 years of existence.
Sfiso is up against gospel legends Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Joyous Celebration, Benjamin Dube and Thinah Zungu.
When his name was announced, other gospel artists screamed and said the Kulungile Baba hitmaker deserved it.
Some said he was going to take both awards.
Awards founder Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule said she had thought of Sfiso when Zungu and Dumi Mkokstad were teasing each other during an interview at the Ukhozi FM studios last year.
“We didn’t know Sfiso would be gone by now,” said Zanele.
She said the awards were franchised to other African countries.
“We are glad to announce that in March there will be a Crowns Zambia, and the following year the event will be hosted by a different country. This means growth for us,” said Zanele.
A cake was cut at the event to celebrate the 10-year celebration.
