SAY hello to Mabrrr’s look-alike!

People on social media have made it clear that they want Bathabile Ngubeni from Pietermaritzburg, KZN, to star as Brenda Fassie in a film about her life.

The film is being made by a UK-based production company, Showbizbee.

Other frontrunners to play the role of the Queen of African Pop included Brenda Ngxoli and Soso Rungqu, but the fans wanted Bathabile and not an international star.

In an radio interview Bathabile said after several failed attempts, at some point she decided to surrender and gave up her dream of playing the role of Brenda.

“When you want something so badly and you don’t get it, you give up and forget about it,” she said.

“But now the opportunity has presented itself again, I’m good and ready to take the bull by its horns.”

Bathabile also has an ace up have sleeve.

“I’ve learned to sing Brenda’s songs because when people say you look like her, they expect you to sing her songs,” she said.

  • Meanwhile, Sunday Sun reported that a legal showdown is brewing between the production company and Brenda’s long-time producer Chicco Twala and his partners.

According to the reports, lawyers representing Chicco sent letters to Mabrrr’s son, Bongani, as well as Legaci Nova, the PR company and Showbizbee, to stop shooting the movie, arguing they did not own the rights.
