Vocalist and composer Lindiwe Maxolo will host a concert in a tribute to woman artists who paved the way for her.
An Evening with Lindiwe Maxolo will feature singers Gloria Bosman and Sibongile Khumalo, and jazz trumpeter Lwanda Gogwana, at the Soweto Theatre in Jabulani on Saturday.
Lindiwe (40) told SunBuzz: “For many years I have looked up to Mam Sibongile and I have done some amazing work with Gloria. I thought it fitting to pay tribute to their inspiration and support throughout my career.”
The Vaal-born singer said the music industry is tough but with support she achieves the best she can.
“We have planned an amazing set for fans – they will not be disappointed.”
She last released an album, Time, in 2013, and said she is working to release new material.
“I am an independent musician so it is not easy to finance recordings.”
Lindiwe is a music teacher at Thaba Jabula Secondary School in Pimville.
“I love working with young people. Teaching them music gives me fulfilment because I share my passion with them.”
In 2002, she won the Afro vocal category of the Old Mutual Jazz Encounters Competition and has an honours degree in jazz from the University of Cape Town.
She has performed in India, Portugal, Greece and the USA.
Tickets for the show are R150 at Webtickets or are available at the venue.
