Ricardo Groenewald of I Love You Daddy fame has died, the news of his passing broke yesterday evening.

The 43-year-old first shot to fame in 1987 with the hit song and was only eight-years-old at the time.

According to media reports the singer had been battling cancer for a long time and was admitted to Tygerberg Hospital earlier this week.

Fans took to social media early on Thursday morning to share their condolences.

“Rest in peace #RicardoGroenewald. ‘I love you daddy’ touched our hearts. Definately impacted relationships between dad's and kids,” Dalin Oliver tweeted.


Patricia De Lille tweeted; “Saddened to hear about the passing of musician Ricardo Groenewald. Thoughts are with his friends & family. May his soul rest in peace.”
