e.tv boss Monde Twala has signed a deal to bring Lip Sync Battle to our screens.

The countdown has begun for Lip Sync Battle Africa.

The show is hosted by LL Cool J in America but the local version will be hitting our screens in April.

Under a partnership with e.tv, the series will air on MTV and MTV Base before making its premiere on e.tv.

Speaking to SunBuzz, e.tv managing director Monde Twala said the channel is excited about the collaboration.

“For us it is about making sure we keep up with the trends and that we stick to the format of international shows on the market,” he said.

He said the show will have an African twist to it despite the fact that the format has to be in line with how it works overseas.

“We’ll record it in Joburg with local musicians, politicians and actors who will all be letting loose to show the audience what they’re made of.

“Our focus will be on celebrities with star power.

“We want to make it as broad as possible because e.tv is a channel that reaches most countries on the continent,” he said.

The series will have 13 half-hour episodes featuring vocal showdowns between top celebrities and entertainment figures, complete with dancers, wigs, costumes and props.

Each battle will consist of two celebrities miming to popular music tracks of their choice.

Each contestant must sync two songs – one of which has to be by an African artist.

The winner is chosen by the live studio audience.

Twala could not reveal the names of the presenters of the local show.

“We are busy sorting everything out because we want to get the right people,” he said.
