Rapper Young A won’t stop until he’s at the top.

If there’s one thing Martin Mpoyi is good at, it’s making music that hip hop fans can’t get enough of.

Born in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, the 21-year-old rapper popularly known as Young A is determined to become a household name.

Young A started showing an interest in music in 2003.

He started writing songs with his friends.

The young rapper said he wrote his first verse at the age of 9.

“I recorded my first song, Hater Countdown, in high school.”

Soon after the song’s release, he started recording more singles and his fan base grew.

He recently released a new single titled I Swear.

“It’s about making it in the music industry and putting my home town on the map,” he said.

“Besides wanting my music to be known across the country, I also want to collaborate with international artists in the future,” he said.

Young A has been keeping busy by performing at events and school functions in Polokwane.

“I was also shortlisted for Vuzu’s The Hustle but I couldn’t take part in the music competition because my parents wanted me to matriculate first,” he said.

Although Young A is still an up-and-coming artist, he is happy his dream of making music came true.

He is currently performing around the country and promoting his single on radio stations.
