SHAMPOONAIZA is winning a large number of followers on TV and in theatre.

Shampoonaiza, real name Thapelo Seemise (37), is well known in comedy circles and is the comedian on SABC1’s Sport at 10 programme with seasoned presenter Thomas Mlambo.

He joined the show in 2013 after his successful Taxi Ride movie on YouTube.

“In my first appearance on the show I didn’t plan any jokes, I just made fun of soccer players. My first joke was about Orlando Pirates.

“I said if you lose your arm, you will not be able to complete the Buccaneers’ sign,” said Shampoonaiza. His favourite soccer clubs are the top three, Chiefs, Bucs and Sundowns.

“I am torn between them because they buy each other’s players and the only different is their jersey,” said Shampoonaiza. His best coach is Pitso Mosimane whom he will follow wherever he coaches.

He regards Steve Khomphela as an inspiration. “He is the first black coach to have the courage to coach Chiefs.”

He also runs the Shampoonaiza Comedy show every month end at the State Theatre in Pretoria.

“Our shows are always sold out. The last show of 2017 will be on the 14th of December.”

Comedy is a therapy session for him and his audience.

“I once helped a businessman who had a feud with his business partner. At the end of the show he told me my jokes made him want to go and start again,” he said.

Shampoonaiza said he changes sad audiences to happy ones because he shares his own life experiences.

“I am a university drop-out and I was unemployed for four years between 2000 and 2004 so I have great experiences to build my shows on.”

Shampoonaiza, born in GaRankuwa, north of Pretoria, said his mother, Saraphinah Seemise and his daughter Gosego (14) are his daily inspiration.

He is a popular presenter of live coverage sports activities and hopes to turn his State Theatre comedy event into a television show one day.
