LEBOGANG Makgale is a proud young fashion designer.

The 25-year-old from Extension 2 in Dobsonville, Soweto is the brains behind the MacGale label.

“I use social media platforms, word of mouth and attend Mzansi fashion shows to promote my business and collection,” he said.

Lebo told SunBuzz at first his father did not approve of his choice.

“He argued that fashion designing was only meant for women.

“He wanted me to become a chartered accountant,” he said.

Lebo is working on growing his client base in other parts of the country.

“About 65% of my clients are based in northern Joburg. I also have a few customers in the West Rand,” he said.

“Thanks to social networks, I’m now getting orders from Limpopo.”

Lebo also designs outfits for Oreo campaigns and has dressed celebrities such as DJ Doowap, Sepoko Mathambo and MoonChild.

He has featured in the Joburg Festival Shopping, SA Fashion Week and Back to the City festivals.

Lebo is expected to showcase his Spring collection in Zimbabwe this year.

The young man’s goal is to take over the African fashion industry with bold creations, showing a fusion of unique and different styles.

“I design casual and formal outfits. I saw a market gap and took it.’’

Lebogang aims to open a store in busy Commissioner Street in the Joburg CBD.
