“DJ SHIMZA”, real name Ashley Raphala, survived a health scare while travelling in Lesotho.
DJ Shimza was admitted to hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tembisa-born DJ, who is putting final touches to his seventh annual One Man Show to take place on Christmas Day at Mehlareng Stadium, in Tembisa, posted a picture of himself on Instagram in a hospital bed with drips just after lunch time.
When called by the SunTeam, DJ Shimza confirmed he was indeed in hospital.
He said he was on a work assignment when he took ill.
“I had severe diarrhoea and gastric acid problems. I was placed on a drip when I got to Lesotho on Wednesday for rehydration and to replace lost electrolytes in my body. I’m okay and working now,” he said.
DJ Shimza is known as one of the hardest working DJs among his peers.
His One Man Show supports over 1 000 children from Tembisa.
He’s still signed to DJ Black Coffee’s Soulistic Music. This despite reports about him leaving the record label following allegations of lack of poor marketing for his music by the label’s executives.
DJ Shimza has worked with Cueber and Dr Malinga on hits like Akulalwa, Let The World Dance and others.
He assured his fans his show will go ahead as planned.
