FASHION designer David Tlale recently came under fire after posting a picture of his mum in a Mercedes-Benz.
Social media users were furious because Kuena Moshoeshoe, who won David’s SABC3 reality show The Intern in October, had earlier revealed she had not received her prizes, including a Benz.
Twitter account @AdvBarryRoux posted photos of the car the winner was supposed to get next to the picture of David’s mum, claiming it was the same car.
Kuena, a 30-year-old fashion designer from Lesotho, was supposed to receive a Benz, R200 000 in cash, a studio with equipment worth R250 000 and an internship with David.
When Daily Sun asked David about the accusations, he said: “I did not buy my mum a car. It was just a fun day on a Sunday afternoon and we were taking random photos.”
David said the Twitter account making accusations is known for spreading gossip and trying to ruin people’s careers with untrue stories.
When asked about the prizes, he said the production team was supposed to sort them out.
“I’m not going to entertain this and please leave my mum alone. Even if you use a photo, you can put mine and not my mum’s.”
Kuena refused to comment.
“I’m sorry and thank you for understanding,” she said.
SABC’s spokesman Kaizer Kganyago said: “It is not the SABC that does this. It is the production company that has sponsored the show that gives out the prizes.”
A representative of the production company responsible for the show said they would only be able to comment today.
