AT THE rate she’s going, there’s no stopping Candy Mokwena.

The singer, who is best known for her hit track with DJ Oskido, Tsa Mandebele, has added another chapter to the story of her musical success.

Candy is the face of this year’s Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition.

To celebrate being the face of the renowned annual music conference, she performed her new single, Mmalekutu, last week in Tzaneen, Limpopo.

The song references a well-known Sepedi marriage custom which sees cousins marrying each to keep wealth in the family.

Candy said: “My music career started when I was initiated into my mum’s traditional music group called khekhapa.

“That is where I learnt about ancestry and music.”

Khekhapa is a form of indigenous music created by the Balobedu tribe from Limpopo.

The music was created to teach and instil cultural values through song and dance.

The singer’s mum played percussion in the Khekhapa group in Ga-Sedibeng Village, Limpopo.

Candy’s roots have been guiding her throughout her music journey.

Her album Easy Come Easy Go, is a continuation of her journey.

The Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition takes place from 6 to 9 September at Newtown Music Factory, Joburg.

Tickets cost between R200 and R550 and can be bought on www.moshito.co.za
