THE TRIBUTE concert for Brown Dash will still go on despite last weekend’s postponement.
So said organiser Mahlomola Kekana after rumours began circulating that the show would no longer be taking place.
The concert was scheduled for last weekend at Orlando Stadium but was postponed due to the passing of the late kwaito superstar, Mduduzi “Mandoza” Tshabalala.
Speaking to Sunday Sun, Mahlomola said the concert will be taking place at a new venue before the end of this year.
“People who’ve bought tickets for the previous date are advised to go and get refunds to avoid confusion.
“The concert will be taking place at the Dobsonville Stadium on 3 December. I must say Mandoza’s funeral has brought a lot of kwaito musicians together as a united front.
“That’s maybe why we’ve received requests from other musicians wanting to be part of the concert,” he said.
“Now we’ve added Alaska, Trompies, Doc Shebeleza, Sbu ‘Malawyer’, Arthur, Chomee and TKZee to the line-up.
“We’ve also retained Riky Rick, Nasty C, Zakwe, Mdu, Mzekezeke, Prokid and Mapaputsi to perform at the concert.
“I think the performances during Mandoza’s funeral motivated the kwaito nation to stand tall and come together,” said Mahlomola.
He added that at one stage the search for a Brown Dash Tribute Concert venue led to Ellis Park Stadium.
But Mahlomola ruled that this venue wasn’t going to do justice to the people from Brown Dash’s old neighbourhood.
He told the People’s Paper: “We can’t be hosting the gig outside of Soweto!
“We know the people who are our target market.”
He added: “For example, we’ve got elderly and young people from Zola, who would never have managed to get there if the concert was staged too far from Soweto.”
