THE childhood friends followed different careers when they grew up.
Lucky Matome (36) and Kabelo Mohati (35) became cops, while Samson Masango (36) became a geologist and lecturer.
But one thing has brought the three men back together. “We share a love of music,” said Tarlton police spokesman Lucky.
The three from Kagiso, Mogale City, are the founders of a new kwaito group, CKG.
Lucky said the group was formed last year after a Mosupatsela Senior Secondary School reunion.
“CKG is an acronym for our names: C – Costa (Lucky), K – Kabelo and G – Gap (Samson).”
“Although as individuals we have been in the industry before, we decided to come together as a group to merge our talents,” Lucky said
Kabelo said they have released an album and video of their hit Sjeba.
They recently won the new and upcoming artist challenge on Jozi FM.
Kabelo said: “We’ve recorded great songs under our record label, SKILZ M3 at Base to Base Recording Studios in Joburg.
“Our sounds include kwaito beats, house, jazz and traditional African beats.”
Samson said they have performed on different stages around the country.
“We often perform at Obsessions Club in Krugersdorp and also celebrated Youth Day this year at 112 Cafe in White City, Soweto to a crowd of about 2000.”
He said they also get invited to perform live at Club Shosholoza in Meadowlands and at the SAPS West Rand corporate events.
