JOHNNY Cradle is taking Mzansi’s music scene by storm.
The band has released a new single titled Runaweyi, and promised their best is yet to come.
Johnny Cradle is made up of drummer and backing vocalist Tebogo Mosane (32), turntablist and Lazola “Laz” Ndamase (36) and vocalist Sakumzi “Sakie” Qumana (31), who also plays the synthesiser.
Tebogo said the band’s music is influenced by their kasis.
“With roots in Mdantsane and Mthatha in the Eastern Cape and Ga-Rankuwa in Tshwane, our lyrics are inspired by where we come from.”
He said their music cannot be boxed into a genre.
“We don’t really care about genres.
“We just focus on recording music that sounds good to us and makes a connection with the people who hear it,” said Tebogo.
The band has been together since 2008 and has graced the stages of numerous events such as the Oppikoppi, Mieliepop and Lush festivals.
“We have also made appearances and performed live on radio stations such as Radio 702, Power FM and YFM.”
Tebogo said the band’s album, titled Johnny Cradle, was released on 21 July.
“The album represents everything that love means to us.
“It is about being better men to our families and the art of getting over heartbreak.
“Ultimately, it is just a collection of different types of energy put into music for a feel good vibe.”
He said their music is a reflection of their own experiences.
“We’re not trying to be anyone other than who we are.
“We are not willing to be confined to any stereotypes or box.
“Instead, Johnny Cradle breaks through boundaries and borders to give you something you’ve never experienced before,” Tebogo said.
